Welcome!

This page is dedicated to the rebuilding of a 2003 Ford Mustang Mach1.

The stock engine failed on startup at 28,000 miles on March 29, 2014. One of the assemblies that holds a plastic timing chain guide in place on the driver side apparently came loose and slipped down into the oil pan. A large piece of the plastic timing chain guide was found, with the rest of it having snapped off. We were able to walk the affected timing chain off the larger sprocket by hand. Since a few rocker arms broke and valves were bent, we assumed this timing chain – with the extra slack from the loss of its chain guide – skipped a tooth or two and threw the engine timing off. The oil that came out of the engine was clean, but the oil filter revealed metal flakes. We even noticed metal flakes on the timing chains and sprockets. Despite this all happening at idle, the stock engine is destroyed and must be replaced.

The official plan is to build a Terminator application with a Roots-type supercharger, manually transmissioned by a built 6-speed T-56.
